Now, Rebecca James, Bunnings area manager NSW told the Mercury that construction has commenced on the new Bunnings Warehouse Kembla Grange, which will replace their current Warrawong warehouse. “The new warehouse represents an investment of over $62 million and will stand at over 16,000sqm; 5000sqm bigger than the current Warrawong warehouse,” she said on Friday. “All team members from the existing Warrawong warehouse will transfer to the new store once complete and will employ over 135 team members, including 40 new team members. “The new warehouse is expected to be completed in late 2020. “We look forward to providing the Kembla Grange community with the widest range of home improvement and outdoor living products in a bigger and better store.” In 2016, Bunnings Properties lodged plans with Wollongong council to demolish existing structures at the Northcliffe Drive and Canterbury Road site and build a hardware and supplies store. The hardware store will be built on a 40,000sqm block from the former Prime Television studios in Northcliffe Drive to the Princes Highway. Bunnings rent their current site at Warrawong. Currently, 151 Property act as management agents for a private equity owner of the site; the same company that owns Warrawong Plaza. Nej Elia, national portfolio manager of retail at 151 Property declined to comment when asked by the Mercury about the plans for the Warrawong Bunnings site. There were reports last year, later denied, that Illawarra-based aged care provider IRT were interested in the Warrawong site. The Kembla Grange Bunnings application was determined by the Southern Joint Regional Planning Panel due to its high costs.
