A 19th century farmhouse has been brought back to life as part of a true restoration project.
Barry Barwick considers himself the “custodian of the history of Brownsholme”.
It’s an original farmhouse where the Carinity Brownsholme seniors community at Highfields now sits.
The house has been moved up the road to Carbarlah, but it once sat proudly on a dairy farm and was owned by Isobel “Molly” Browne.
It was built by Molly’s grandparents soon after their arrival in Queensland from Ireland in the early 1870s.
The house eventually ended up in terrible disrepair, most wouldn’t go near it.
But Barry is passionate about history and bought it with his wife Joan 25 years ago.
This wasn’t a renovation, but a true restoration, every piece is as close to what the house was built with in the 1800s.
Belinda Sanders visited Barry in his home to talk about what is a significant piece of this region’s history.
