Here are the world’s five largest construction projects initiated in Q3 2021, according to GlobalData’s construction projects database.

1. Chandler Campus Expansion, United States – $20,000m

The project involves the expansion of a semiconductor chip production plant in Ocotillo Campus on 5.3ha of land in Arizona, the US.

Construction work started in Q3 2021 and is expected to be completed in Q4 2024.

The project aims to build two factories known as ‘Fabs’, to enhance production capacity and meet the growing demand for chips that are used in tablet computers, and other electronic devices.

2. Chennai Metro Rail, India – $14,887m

The project involves the construction of a rapid transit rail system in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India.

Construction work commenced in Q3 2021 and is expected to finish in Q4 2026.

Chennai Metropolis has been growing rapidly and the traffic volumes on the roads have also been increasing enormously. This project will decrease congestion on the roads.

3. Plaquemines LNG Facility, United States – $8,500m

The project involves the construction of an LNG liquefaction and export terminal facilities with a capacity to export up to 20MTPA on 255ha of land in Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana, the US.

Construction work started in Q3 2021 and is forecast to complete in Q4 2025.

The aim of the project is to provide better export facilities of LNG gas in the region and support the long-term development of clean and reliable North American energy supplies.

4. ZAC Campus Grand Parc Mixed-Use Development, France – $7,000m

The project involves the construction of ZAC Campus Grand Parc mixed-use development project on a 80ha of land in Villejuif, located in the Ile-de-France region, France.

Construction work commenced in Q3 2021 and is expected to be completed in Q4 2027.

In the fourth quarter of 2011, the Institute Gustave Roussy, Conférence Territoriale de la Vallée Scientifique de la Bièvre (VSB), Société du Grand Paris (SGP), l’Etat, l’Etablissement Public Foncier d’Ile de France (EPFIF), and the Conseil Départemental du Val de Marne has appointed Sadev 94 as the developer of the ZAC.

5. Milanosesto Mixed-Use Complex, Italy – $6,829m

The project involves the construction of a mixed-use facilities on a 1,004,000m2 area at Sesto San Giovanni in Milan, Province of Milan, Italy.

Construction work started in Q3 2021 and is expected to be completed in Q4 2026.

The project aims at transforming the former steelworks Falck area of Sesto San Giovanni into a mixed-use community and to enhance residential, commercial and retail facilities in the region. The project on completion will house a residential population of 15,000 people and be the daily workplace of 15,000 people.
