Ending gender discrimination in construction

Construction is the second most male dominated industry in Australia, after mining.

Sexism persists, and discrimination against women in the workplace is rife.

The gender pay gap is over 26%, and growing.

Yet the industry faces a skills shortage – a shortage that could be filled by increased female participation.

How do we abolish gender bias in the Australian construction industry?

Paul Barclay speaks to a panel of experts.

Recorded via Zoom on September 17, 2021, at an online event hosted by NAWIC – the National Association for Women in Construction

Speakers:

Kristine Schuel – National Chair, National Association for Women in Construction (NAWIC); Executive Branch manager, Legal Contracts and Procurement, Transport Canberra.

Andre Noonan – Chief Operating Officer, ACCIONA Australia & NZ

Paula Gerber – Professor, Faculty of Law, Monash University

Dr Niki Vincent – Victoria’s Public Sector Gender Equity Commissioner.
