Fewer than than two per cent of tradies are ladies and that statistic has not changed for 25 years.
So why haven’t those numbers improved and why aren’t we seeing more women participate in trades like construction, automotive and electrical?
National lobby group, Tradeswomen Australia says there are three major barriers:
A. Lack of information and engagement about the trades with career advisors and high school girls.
B. Poor workplace culture and social misconception make trades unattractive as a career path.
C. Lack of structural support systems for women working in male-dominated trade industries.
