GLASGOW — A training and maintenance facility will soon be constructed near the Glasgow Police Department.

The Glasgow City Council voted at its meeting Monday evening to approve the transfer of $550,000 from the city’s general fund to the police department for the project. Bids were collected last month.

Harold Armstrong, mayor, said the city received its lowest bid from Alliance Corporation. The council is required by law to accept the lowest bid price within “reasonable promptness,” which is the reason the council met in an unusual special session Feb. 18.

A portion of property adjacent to the police department was given to the city sometime last year, Armstrong said. The department is located along Pin Oak Lane and is the former headquarters of Gray Construction.

Aside from a maintenance garage, the facility will house a department training area, which will be a new investment for the department. Training exercises are currently completed at other facilities when needed. The final building will include two maintenance bays and a wash bay, a police spokesperson said.

City officials said the construction is expected to be begin within the next month and be completed by late fall.
